Methodology

Transparent, source-driven methodology

Clear inputs, update cadence, and derivation logic for every ETB reference rate.

Data Sources

Public market observations, official bank publications, and global FX reference feeds.

Updated hourly.

Caching and update frequency

We cache source responses for about one hour to keep the site fast and stable. The “Last updated” line on each page shows the most recent refresh time.

Cross-currency derivation

For non-USD pairs, we derive ETB references using the USD/ETB reference and the current USD cross rate for the target currency. When direct market references are available, those are shown first.

Definitions

  • Official bank reference: a published reference rate from regulated institutions.
  • Market reference: an aggregated reference reflecting broader demand outside formal banking.
  • Premium gap: the difference between market and official references.

Limitations

References are informational only and may differ from final quotes at banks or licensed providers. Always verify rates directly before making decisions.
